OCTOPUS ISLAND RESORT

Located on Waya Island in the Yasawa Group, Octopus is great destination for the budget conscious and those wanting a Robinson Crusoe experience. There is no power in the bures (just kerosene lamps), but there are some of the best beaches and dive spots in Fiji.

OUTRIGGER CANOES

Outriggers give a tropical flavour to Fiji and are seen with locals casting nets. Because of their design, they’re not as easy to manoeuvre as they look. The trick is in the oar motion - rather than paddling ‘straight’, pull the oar through the water in a ‘J’ curve.

OUTRIGGER REEF FIJI RESORT

Outrigger Reef Fiji is a new-ish, full service resort on the Coral Coast. Opened in October 2000 it is set amongst a lush garden with walking paths and ocean views. There are 207 tropically furnished air-conditioned hotel rooms and 47 breeze-cooled bures that, like the Shangri-la Fijian, attempt to emulate the style of a traditional Fijian village. The thatched bures are designed with hand painted, tapa lined vaulted ceilings. There’s a huge freshwater swimming pool, a full range of day and evening activities and children's activity program. The Outrigger Reef is managed by a Hawaiian hotel chain but the building actually belongs the Australian owners of Castaway Island Resort.
