YACHTING
(see Sailing)
YAQONA
Yaqona (pronounced yangona) is Fiji's national drink, also known as kava (see ‘kava’). It's made from the pulverised root of a member of the pepper family. It's believed to have medicinal qualities (apart from making you feel mellow).
YANUCA ISLAND
Yanuca (yah-nootha) Island is home to the Shangri-la Fijian resort, which is connected to the mainland by a causeway. The local Fijians continue the tradition of fire walking and this is demonstrated at Coral Coast resorts.
YASAWAS
The Yasawa island group is north of the Mamanucas and a bit like that itch in the centre of your back - bit more difficult to get to than other parts but sooooo rewarding when you do. It was the setting for the famous Blue Lagoon movie and the cruise of the same name not only goes there but has an island there. You get the white, sandy beaches, tropical rainforests and the blue-green crystal clear waters but in some resorts you’ll pay for the experience (see below).
YASAWA ISLAND RESORT
Yasawa is located on the northern-most tip of the Yasawa Island group. It’s a secluded, romantic, deluxe resort offering 16 spacious, thatched split-level bures that open onto sundecks off the separate bedroom and living areas. All meals and non-alcoholic beverages are included and this one is for the discerning and well-heeled. There’s a ‘no children under 12’ policy.
